Colorado Nonprofit Seeks Donations To Assist With Ebola Outbreak

DENVER (CBS4) - A nonprofit that's shipping medical supplies to doctors and medical teams battling the Ebola virus in western Africa is asking for a simple everyday item: duct tape.

The tape helps medical staff seal gowns, masks, gloves and another equipment to help prevent spread of the disease.

"We definitely need the duct tape and any kinds of gown, goggles, foot covers, masks, gloves and isolation gloves," Dr. Deborah Givray, Project Cure's operations director, told CBS4. "They have to be able to take the items, duct tape around, and keep any fluids from going out or coming in."

Project Cure, a Colorado nonprofit, plans to send containers to Sierra Leone. Donors interested in giving can visit ProjectCure.org. Money donations are also accepted to help ship the containers, which cost $20,000 each to send.

Ebola has killed 729 in four African nations this year.

"It's very frightening because if it continues moving at the rate it is, killing hundreds of people, without the supplies, without the gowns to cover up, it is going to continue," Givray said.
