Colorado May Soon See Benefits Of Recreational Marijuana Sales
DENVER (CBS4) – The state of Colorado may soon reap the benefits of recreational marijuana sales.
The Evergreen Marijuana shop used to be a medical marijuana shop that now sells recreational pot and sees 500 customers a day.
The combined state and local sales tax on that marijuana is over 25 percent.
Stores had to report their sales tax receipts on Thursday.
Evergreen Marijuana paid $190,000 in sales tax during the month of January.
Official numbers won't come out until March but Gov. John Hickenlooper estimates the state will make $140 million in the first 18 months of sales.
Some of that money will go towards building schools and some toward drug prevention programs.
