Colorado Man Sentenced For Preying On Elderly

DENVER (AP) — A Colorado man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for defrauding an elderly man of his life savings.

Fifty-five-year-old Akihiko Siegfried also was ordered to pay more than $512,000 in restitution to the victim.

U.S. Attorney John Walsh said Wednesday Siegfried borrowed money under false pretenses from an 89-year-old widower of Japanese-American heritage. Siegfried told the widower he was about to receive an inheritance he would use to repay the loan. Walsh said Siegfried has no such inheritance.

Siegfried played on the widower's background by claiming he, too, was of Japanese descent.

Siegfried will be transferred to a Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his sentence.
