Colorado Garden & Home Show Gets Big Boost From The Warm Weather

DENVER (CBS4) - All the nice weather has people in the Denver metro area thinking spring, which is a big boost for the Colorado Garden and Home Show currently open to the public at the Colorado Convention Center.

CBS4's Mark Taylor found that this year's home show features such things as the new trend of turning shipping containers into living spaces to the latest in custom security doors.

"You're locked, but no one can actually physically pry this door open now," Ken Colaizzi with Secure-All Company said while showing off a security door.

The storm doors protect against everything from severe weather to break-ins.

"We also invented our own lock guard too … we have a U.S. patent on this so it prevents anybody from prying the door open," Colaizzi said.

This year's show includes 10 landscape gardens, free seminars, and do-it-yourself demonstrations.

"We are all in Colorado and we love to be outside," show organizer Jim Fricke said.

Fricke said this year the show partnered with the nonprofit Denver Firefighters Museum.

"They've got three antique fire trucks in here and a bunch of different exhibits from the museum," Fricke said.

He said although the calendar may say February, now is the time to plan for any 2015 upgrades.

"The big thing that I tell people is, is you need to start planning now if you want to get home improvements this spring or in the summer."
