Colorado Free Application Day For Colleges Is Oct. 15
DENVER (CBS4)- Tuesday is Free Application Day for college in Colorado. Last year, Colorado institutions received more than 23,000 applications last year.
Free Application Day was set up to encourage young people to further their learning.
Avery Hendrick, 17, has been thinking about her future for months
"There's so many options out there, and it's a little overwhelming at first when you look at it and see how much you have to get done," she said.
Still in high school those thoughts include the costs associated with continuing education.
"I try to get scholarships so I keep my grades up for that, but sometimes you wonder how am I going to manage."
She says any opportunity she can take to help her family save she wants to take advantage of, starting with Colorado's Free Application Day.
"It definitely seemed a lot further away than it was, and suddenly everyone is like 'it's go time,'" Hendrick said with a laugh.
All public and some private institutions will waive application fees from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday. Fees can range anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on the applicant it can save big bucks.
"If you're applying for five schools that can get pretty expensive pretty fast," she said.
For Hendrick taking advantage of the free day meant months of preparing, but when the deadline hits she says she's ready to submit.
According to an estimate from the Colorado Department of Education only 56% of high school seniors in Colorado go on to earn a college degree.
