Colorado Family To Be Reunited With Missing Dog After 5 Years

PUEBLO, Colo. (CBS4)- A family in Pueblo will be reunited with their dog who disappeared five years ago. The dog was found in Missouri.

Brenda Mahaffey adopted the dog, Missy, for her children. But the dog disappeared without a trace until a dedicated volunteer was determined to return the dog to her family.

"There was some inaccurate information on the chip and so when they contacted the chip company, they were able to trace down that the last name was spelled wrong. That's when I stepped in and said, 'So, you know what, if they'll release the dog to me, I'll make sure it gets back to Colorado, I'll drive it back to Colorado," said volunteer Melissa Morton.

"I'm really excited, my daughter's excited... I just want to cry," said Mahaffey.

No one knows how Missy made it from Pueblo to the suburbs of St. Louis.
