Colorado Elections Update Nearly Complete

DENVER (AP) - Colorado Democrats are nearing the final lap on an update to an election law Republicans vigorously oppose.

The Senate voted 19-13 Tuesday in favor of a bill to update a new elections law that allows same-day registration and orders all eligible voters to be mailed ballots.

Republicans generally oppose the law and used this year's update to renew opposition to the new voting plan, which they call a recipe for voting fraud.

Democrats say the update simply resolves eligibility conflicts in certain local elections.

The bill has passed both chambers, but in slightly different forms. The differences must be smoothed out before the measure heads to the governor's desk.
