Three injured in multi-vehicle crash on Highway 36 in northern Denver metro area

Three people were injured in a crash in the Denver metro area on Tuesday afternoon that temporarily shut down the eastbound lanes of Highway 36.

The Westminster Police Department posted on social media around 2:47 p.m. that a crash had taken place near Church Ranch Boulevard. All eastbound lanes of the highway were shut down while crews worked to investigate and clear the scene.

Police warned drivers traveling east on the highway that they would be directed to exit on Church Ranch Boulevard, and CDOT warned travelers to expect delays in the area. Authorities reopened the highway around 4:20 p.m.

In an update on Tuesday evening, the WPD said the crash involved five vehicles, including a utility vehicle belonging to a private company. They reported that three people were taken to a hospital for treatment, and one of those people suffered serious injuries in the crash. They do expect that person to recover.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
