Colorado Cool Might Be Caused By A Typhoon

DENVER (CBS4) - It's not the Polar Vortex but, a big blast of cold air oozing in over the eastern half of the country from the Rockies to the East Coast.

Tuesday and Wednesday many temperatures across the country have been as much as 15 degrees below normal highs for this time of year.

At the same time the western side of this dip in the jet stream has been pulling in copious amounts of moisture from the north Pacific in across the Northwest Plains across the central Rockies right up into the Midwest to the east coast.

This has created showers and thunderstorms with tremendous amounts of flooding rains.

What Is Bringing In The Cold, Heavy Rain?

Speculation among many forecasters is that super typhoon Neoguri that struck parts of Japan last week was strong enough to alter the path of the jet stream in the  North Pacific creating a buckle over the west coast of the United States and a huge low pressure trough or cup of cold air over the eastern half of the country.

Opening the door for unseasonably cool air and record amounts of rainfall in some areas in and around the flowing Jet Stream.
