Colorado Bureau Of Investigation Crime Lab Has New Location

ARVADA, Colo. (AP) - The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has moved its lab for fingerprint, ballistics, DNA and other testing from Lakewood to bigger quarters in Arvada.

The Denver Post reports CBI held a grand opening last month after a $7 million renovation. Lab manager Aaron Koning says the new 26,000-square-foot facility is nearly three times the size of the Lakewood facility. Koning says he expects the move to improve efficiency and speed.

CBI Denver laboratory director Katie Fetherston notes legislators passed a bill in 2013 calling for mandatory submission of sexual assault kits. That meant CBI needed more people and equipment. The lab employs 60 people, including 20 added since 2012.
