Coloradans Honor Servicemen & Women At Aurora's Colorado Freedom Memorial

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Coloradans are coming together this Memorial Day weekend to honor the men and women who gave their lives for our country.

One of the biggest celebrations in the state is taking place at the Colorado Freedom Memorial at Springhill Park in Aurora.

People gathered to pay tribute on Saturday to the veterans remembered on the memorial's glass panels. They also honored several World War II survivors.

This year's holiday also marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Those soldiers, sailors, and airmen were recognized for their many accomplishments on the battlefield.

Col. John Wagner addressed the crowd, "they forged modern America in out lifetimes and our place in this world. We are truly -- as you saw some of those walking in this morning, and some sitting right in front of me today -- we are truly standing on the shoulders of giants," he said.
