Collision Between Motorcycle & Car Shuts Down I-70

DENVER (CBS4) - Westbound lanes of Interstate 70 were closed at Havana Street during the Monday morning commute because of a crash involving a car and a motorcycle.

It happened at approximately 5:20 a.m. and backups extended nearly to Pena Boulevard as of 6:15 a.m. Monday.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police said the driver was cited for careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury. No drugs or alcohol was suspected. Investigators say the driver was making a lane change and did not see the motorcycle.

The ramps to access I-70 at Havana were also closed. Alternate routes were advised during the investigation.

CBS4 Traffic Specialist Joel Hillan suggests exiting I-70 at Peoria, and going south to Colfax Avenue or north to 56th Avenue in order to drive west into Denver.

The westbound lanes of I-70 were reopened at 7:05 a.m.
