Collapsing Retaining Wall Near Springs Homes Continues To Fall Apart

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - A retaining wall near some homes in Colorado Springs that was already crumbling is now falling down after Saturday's storms.

The wall is located near Lower Gold Camp Road and Bear Creek on the west side of the city.

Three families were forced out of their homes last week because of the falling concrete blocks.

According to Captain Kevin Bird with the Colorado Springs Fire Department, the concrete blocks weigh 2,000 pounds apiece.

The City of Colorado Springs has told the owner of the retaining wall to make the necessary repairs. If the owner doesn't, the city has said it will hire contractors to complete the job and bill the property owner.

The residents of those living in the evacuated homes will not be allowed to return until the city deems them safe.
