5 people hurt in Aurora multi-car crash on Colfax Avenue near Interstate 225

A dramatic multi-car crash happened just before daybreak in Aurora. Police said five people were hurt and six vehicles were involved, including at least two pickup trucks.

It happened on East Colfax Avenue at approximately 6 a.m. close to the intersection with Billings Street just east of Interstate 225. The eastbound lanes of the road were closed while a cleanup and investigation took place into Monday afternoon. Those lanes remained closed for several hours. Colfax reopened after 1 p.m.

A witness who was in a car that was involved in the wreck said one of the pickup trucks was speeding on the road and ran into the back of the other cars.

Two of the people who were taken to the hospital had injuries that were described as serious and the three others had minor injuries.

Police are investigating whether a medical condition may have been involved.
