Coach Mac Not Worried About Jet Lag: 'They're College Students, They're Nocturnal'
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - The University of Colorado football team is already in Hawaii on Tuesday preparing to open the season at Aloha Stadium late Thursday night, and hopefully the jet lag wears off before kickoff.
Head coach Mike MacIntyre isn't worried.
"Game day they'll sleep in, I'm pretty sure. We'll let them sleep in for a while since we don't kick off until 7 pm. and 11 p.m. our guys' time," MacIntyre said. "They asked me that the other day and I said, 'They're college students, they're nocturnal' … The coaches might have to take a nap during the middle of the day, but they'll be too nervous to do that."
The Buffs held the Warriors to just four field goals last year in Boulder in what turned out to be CU's last win of the season. It's a tougher task this year, however, now that quarterback Max Wittek is eligible.
Wittek was one of the top high school recruits in 2010 and started his college career at USC, but transferred after failing to win the starting job.
"I expect to see a lot of him throwing the ball a lot, especially with Max Wittek, he's a great quarterback," Buffs safety Tedric Thompson said. "Of course he's a great quarterback coming from USC. Anybody who played at USC, they're a great player. He has a great arm, he can throw the ball like 60, 70 yards down the field just off the flick of the wrist."
