Child Injured In Accidental Shooting In Critical Condition After Surgery
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A 7-year-old boy is fighting for life after a gun got into the hands of children at a home in Aurora.
Six children ranging in age from 7 to 12 were in a home in the Hoffman Heights neighborhood on Thursday when the boy somehow got shot in the head. A neighbor told CBS4 no adults were present at the time and police later confirmed that.
The boy, whose name has not been released, underwent surgery at Children's Hospital in Aurora following the incident and was listed in critical condition afterwards.
The shooting, which happened at approximately 3:30 p.m. on the 1000 block of North Vaughn Street, remains under investigation.
"The preliminary information that we have at this time is that the shooting does appear to be accidental," said Aurora police spokesman Sgt. Chris Amsler.
The neighbor CBS4 spoke to said a 12-year-old from the house rushed to her door afterwards asking for her to call for help.
Aurora police say there is not a law in city limits for adults to lock up firearms, but they still stress the importance of doing so.
