Chick-Fil-A's New Coop At DIA Questioned By Denver City Council
DENVER (CBS4) - Chick-fil-A thought they had something cooking at Denver International Airport but some Denver City Council members are questioning the franchise's return to DIA.
According to the Denver Post, Councilman Paul Lopez believes the franchise's stance against same-sex marriage is a "moral issue on the city."
Openly gay councilmember Robin Kniech told the Denver Post she was worried about a franchise in Denver generating "corporate profits used to fund and fuel discrimination."
The seven-year deal with the franchise has been stalled until Sept. 1 by the Business Development Committee. According to the Denver Post the committee will likely take up the issue behind closed doors with city attorneys to consider the legal ramifications of blocking the franchise from DIA.
Several years ago city leaders in Chicago attempted to block a new Chick-fil-A restaurant for similar reasons but backed down.
