Cherry Creek Reservoir Flushed To Release Sediment
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- The Cherry Creek Reservoir was flushed on Thursday.
The Army Corps of Engineers opened all five gates at the reservoir which caused rushing water.
That rushing water cleaned out some of the sediment in the reservoir located south of Interstate 225 in Aurora.
"When the gates are opened, the high velocity of the water leaving the reservoir scours the area immediately upstream of the gates and transports sediment with the flow," said U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project manager Katie Seefus.
That rushing water also caused some high water levels along the Cherry Creek Bike Path along with some debris.
The flushing happens every year.
