Charges Filed In El Jebel Double Slaying

EAGLE, Colo. (AP) — A 33-year-old man suspected of killing his aunt and uncle in El Jebel after an argument with the aunt about the family dog has been formally charged.

The Eagle County District Attorney's Office says William Anderson Amaya was charged Friday with several felonies, including two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Amaya is accused of shooting 40-year-old Mayra Lopez and her husband, 42-year-old Eliseo Lopez, on July 12 at their home, where Amaya had been living. The coroner says they were each shot four times.

The attempted first-degree murder charges were filed after investigators said Amaya also targeted the couple's teenage sons.

Amaya is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
