Changes Underway For Temporary Registration Tags

DENVER (CBS4)- A change is underway to temporary registration permits in Colorado.

Division of Motor Vehicles offices in three counties started making the change on Monday. Those offices started issuing the new temporary license plates to drivers.

The temporary tags have more information including the make, model and vehicle identification number.

Instead of taping the temporary plate to the back window, it will actually be placed in the license plate holder.

"I think it's a community safety issue and give our law enforcement officials a better awareness of the document as well," said Colorado Department of Revenue spokeswoman Lynn Granger.

The idea behind the redesign is to stop the counterfeiting of the plates.

All DMV offices and vehicle dealerships will use the new permits by the end of June.
