CDOT To Close US 550 On Red Mountain Pass To Retrieve Pickup That Rolled Down Mountain

OURAY COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A Colorado Department of Transportation crew will close US 550 on Red Mountain Pass Wednesday to retrieve a pickup truck that had rolled down the mountainside last Friday.

CDOT said the Colorado State Patrol reported the Mazda pickup was parked in a dirt "pull-off" on the west shoulder of the road when the vehicle began to roll and traveled 138 feet down before going off the mountainside.

Nobody was in the pickup when it rolled. It came to a rest approximately 250 from the road.

Crews will close the road at 10 a.m. at mile point 88.6.

The closure points will be at MP 89 on the north side (motorists will be able to access Engineer Pass Road from the north) and approximately MP 87 to the south at Ironton Park.
