CDOT Once Again Inspecting Bridges Affected By Last September's Flooding
LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - The Colorado Department of Transportation is currently inspecting and rating bridge conditions across the state following last September's flooding.
Crews started the work on low-risk bridges on Wednesday, including the southbound Interstate 25 bridge over the Little Thompson River. So far high water and flood conditions this week haven't been impacting the bridge.
Crews have already checked higher risk bridges.
Inspectors know last September's flooding caused some erosion and changed the channel of the water. Now they want to know if conditions changed in the last 8 months. The lead inspector said it looks like they have not but CDOT wants to use Wednesday's measurements to design a plan for shoring up the bridge's foundation.
The only real concern would be if there was another 500-year flood event.
In total, CDOT has 411 low-risk bridges to inspect. They plan to spend the next 4 to 6 weeks completing the work.
