CDOT Moves Forward With I-25 Widening Plan

LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) - The Colorado Department of Transportation is moving forward with plans to expand parts of Interstate 25 in northern Colorado.

The plan is to add a third lane in both directions from Highway 66 to Highway 14. That's about a 29 mile stretch from Longmont to Fort Collins.

Growth in the area has led to traffic troubles, and those problems have estimated to have cost northern Colorado businesses an estimated $56 million.

Sen. Michael Bennett is pushing for a long term highway trust fund bill which would fund highway and bridge construction projects across the country and would help fund CDOT's I-25 plan.

On Thursday Congress passed a three month extension of the bill, but Bennett says a long term extension is needed to make sure this project gets done.
