CDOT Launches New Campaign To Get Teens To Buckle Up
DENVER (CBS4) - The Colorado Department of Transportation has launched a new campaign to encourage students to buckle up.
On Tuesday the agency showed off a mangled car that was involved in a rollover accident. The driver was buckled up and walked away from the crash.
"The person driving this vehicle fell asleep at the wheel. They were buckled up. They had a severe rollover. The car is mangled, yet they survived. They walked away from the crash. It shows the power of wearing a seat belt ... that one simple act in saving your life," Sam Cole with CDOT said.
Vehicle crashes are the No. 1 cause of death for teens in Colorado. CDOT is hoping to change that statistic by reminding teens to buckle up.
Douglas County Schools says it will reach out to students through its app, and Sky Ridge Medical Center will talk to staff and patients about buckling up.
The efforts are all part of CDOT's Beware the Beltless campaign.
