CDOT Advises Drivers To 'Bow To The Plow'

GENESEE, Colo. (CBS4) – Sunday's fresh powder is a welcome sight for skiers and boarders, but it was making travel a little tricky along the Front Range and Interstate 70 corridor.

It's not even peak holiday travel time, but drivers heading east on I-70 saw more delays than usual on Sunday.

"Additional ramp metering, things such as escorts behind our plows, and just being very careful about how we manage traffic through Eisenhower Tunnel," Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman Amy Ford said.

Ford says those are some of the measures crews will take to keep the mountain corridor moving as smoothly as possible as people enjoy this month's first big dump of snow.

Conrad Homes and Lucas Tokarski headed up to Loveland Ski Area to hit the slopes Sunday morning.

"It's phenomenal. I can't believe we're getting this much snow this early in the year," said Tokarski, a skier from Littleton on the Loveland Ski Team.

"I'm visiting, and it's my first time to ski in like a year," skier Roxane Fahim said. "I'm so happy to be back in Colorado."

CDOT expects an increase in traffic along I-70 as people head home, and advises to take it slow.

"We like to say, 'Bow to the plow.' It is the biggest piece of equipment out there on the road ... we need people to drive safely," Ford said.
