CBS4's Lauren Whitney Learns A New Climate

MIAMI (CBS4) - Meteorologist Lauren Whitney is spending the week learning about a climate very different from that of Colorado while forecasting from CBS Miami.

Instead of mountains influencing the climate, it's the ocean. Fortunately no tropical storms have churned up in the Atlantic Ocean while Lauren has been in Miami, but it is Florida's rainy season and afternoon showers are common.

Another factor absent in Colorado but included in Florida's forecast is the humidity. While temperatures may be in the 90s, the high level of humidity can raise the "feels like" temperature past 100.

South Florida is also full of boaters, and so a coastal forecast is given, gauging the strength and height of waves and wind.

Meteorologists Dave Aguilera and Chris Spears are filling in for Lauren on the CBS4 morning show all week.
