80 Cats Rescued From Hoarding Situation In Aurora
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Several cats were rescued from a hoarding situation in Aurora. Aurora Animals Services is treating the cats for ringworm until they are ready for adoption.
A homeowner in northeast Aurora recently admitted to lacking the capacity to care for the cats and gave 80 of them to two metro Denver shelters.
The Aurora Animal Shelter and the Denver Dumb Friends League took charge of the animals.
"The neighbors reported seeing a great number of cats," said Nicole Brown, Community Outreach Coordinator for the City of Aurora's Animal Services.
Brown referred to it as a hoarding situation.
The homeowner was not cited or fined because the cats were voluntarily surrendered.
"We just want good homes for them," Brown said.
The shelter is asking for donations to help make the animals' stay more enjoyable until they can be adopted into loving homes. Those donations include scratching posts and cat beds.

A number of them have already passed health screenings and left the Aurora Animal Shelter for those better homes, Brown added. But others have had little exposure to people and are semi-feral. To that end, the shelter has also asked for cat toys in the hopes of encouraging playful behavior around people rather than fearful cowering.
Brown said those cats currently available for adoption can be found on the shelter's website. Of those, their names reflect candy and space themes: Mamba, Smarties, Caramel, Razzles, Mercury, Meteor, Jupiter, and Neptune.
