Castle Rock Votes To Allow Open-Carry Of Guns
CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP/CBS4) - It is now legal to open carry a firearm in public buildings and parks in Castle Rock.
The Castle Rock Town Council heard several hours of public comment on Tuesday concerning the repeal of the firearm open-carry ban before its vote of approval.
The council voted 4-3 to repeal the ban late Tuesday night.
According to the Denver Post, Town Manager Mark Stevens favored repealing the ban. A majority of the police department and town staff were opposed to the repeal.
"We got a lot of feedback from a lot of constituents," said Mayor Paul Donahue said after the Jan. 21 meeting. "People are pretty emotional about this."
Donahue said he's "glad for the residents of Castle Rock in terms of their liberties."
"I like to think that we upheld (those) here," he told CBS4.
"If you, Town Council, repeal the existing ban, I as a volunteer serving on the planning commission will resign," said Planning Committee member Barbara Dash at the Jan 21 meeting.
