Castle Rock Council Approves Open Carry Election
CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP) — The Castle Rock Town Council has agreed to let voters decide whether or not to repeal the town's ban on openly carrying firearms in town-owned buildings and parks.
The approval came Monday after a successful petition against council's vote to repeal the ban in January.
The special election must be set for late summer or early fall, the city announced Tuesday.
The ban allowed the town manager to decide where open carry is allowed when it comes to public property.
Members of the public say open carry is a Second Amendment right, while those against the repeal say it is a safety and intimidation issue.
