Car, Semi Collide In Fatal Crash In Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - A deadly crash involving a semi and a car shut down the intersection of South Wadsworth Boulevard and South Jewell Avenue overnight for several hours.

The crash took place at approximately 2 a.m. Thursday and involved a semi working for King Soopers.

Police said the semi driver had the right-of-way and was turning left onto northbound Wadsworth when the driver of a silver Honda headed southbound on Wadsworth ran the red light and crashed under the semi's trailer.

The momentum of the crash spun the Honda around and it ended up wedged under the trailer.

The male driver of the Honda was the only person inside the car and was killed. The driver of the semi wasn't injured.

Police said weather wasn't a factor in the accident. It's not clear if alcohol was involved.

No names have been released.

The road was reopened after 6 a.m.
