Campaign Launched To Bring More Business To 'Economic Powerhouse' DIA

DENVER (CBS4) - There's a new push to bring more business to Denver International Airport.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock on Wednesday launched a campaign called 1A for DIA. Officials are hoping voters in Adams County and Denver will support a new commercial development at DIA.

The proposal will appear on the ballot in November. The project would bring new manufacturing, retail and office spaces to the airport.

"DIA is an economic powerhouse," Hancock said. "The airport pumps more than $26 billion a year into the state's economy, making it the leading economic driver in the region. 1A for DIA will allow the airport to continue to be a catalyst for economic development for the metro area, giving us the opportunity to strengthen our economy, produce thousands more jobs, and attract new businesses into the region.

The plan is expected to generate 12,000 new jobs.
