California Man Dies In Poudre River Rafting Accident

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - A California man has died in a rafting accident on the Poudre River in Northern Colorado.

Larimer County authorities say 76-year-old Ronald Palmer of Chico died after falling from a commercial raft into the river on Tuesday.

Palmer was quickly found but was unresponsive. Deputies and medical personnel performed CPR, but Palmer was declared dead at a local hospital.

An autopsy performed Wednesday concluded the cause of death was a heart attack triggered by the cold water.

Two other people who fell from the raft along with Palmer were quickly located and pulled back in without injury. The accident occurred about 20 miles northwest of Fort Collins.

All seven people aboard the raft were wearing helmets and flotation devices.
