Cable News Network Al Jazeera America Shutting Down Just 2 1/2 Years After Launch

DENVER (CBS4) — Cable news network Al Jazeera America says it is shutting down just 2 1/2 years after its launch and weeks after a controversial documentary that tried to link Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning to human growth hormones.

Called "The Dark Side," the Al-Jazeera documentary raised questions as to whether Manning used the banned substance human growth hormone known as HGH.

Something Manning vehemently denied to ESPN, "That stings me that that guy insinuates that I broke rules… That's a joke."

The documentary claims the HGH came from this Indianapolis clinic. A former intern, Charles Sly, claimed the HGH would be delivered to Manning's wife Ashley. Al-Jazeera recorded the statements on a hidden camera.

But Sly himself has taken back what he said.

"I am recanting any such statements," Sly said in a YouTube clip.
