Cabin Burns To Ground In Douglas County

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A cabin in Douglas County was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon. Smoke could be seen from Sedalia to Colorado Springs, and multiple people called about the plume.

An officer from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office got to the scene first and walked in on foot due to the significant amount of snow. The building had already burned, and there were no injuries. The owner, a Colorado Springs resident, was on scene but did not know how the fire began.

As of 5:30 p.m., the structure, near Palmer Lake and on private land within the Forest Service, was still smoldering.

It was decided to let the fire burn through the night because there is so much snow that there is no danger of the flames spreading.
