Busy Runway At DIA Getting Makeover That's Expected To Take Until September
DENVER (CBS4) - Crews at Denver International Airport are resurfacing one of the airport's busiest runways.
The crews will replace more than 2,000 concrete slabs and put in pavement sensors.
The project is part of DIA's ongoing runway rehabilitation program.
"Whether it's from weight of aircraft or age, eventually the pavement begins to fail," project manager Matt Nutter said. "We want it fixed before there's any sort of impacts to the operations."
The runway will remain closed until Sept. 15. During that time the Federal Aviation Administration says fliers can expect 30-minute delays, particularly on days when visibility is low.
