Bustang To Begin Weekend Service Between Denver, Glenwood
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The Colorado Department of Transportation has added weekend service on part of its interstate highway bus system beginning Saturday.
The plan calls for one round trip on Saturdays and Sundays. It goes from Glenwood Springs to Denver in the morning, and from Denver to Glenwood Springs in the late afternoon.
Bustang launched in July with service from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs and from Glenwood Springs to Denver during the week. The project is funded by the 2009 FASTER bill, which raised car registration fees to pay for transportation projects.
Each coach can transport 50 passengers and is equipped with restrooms, bike racks, free Wi-Fi, power outlets and USB ports. Department officials did not return a phone call Saturday about weekend ski service.
This is the second expansion of the service, the department said. The Colorado Department of Transportation began providing non-stop weekend service between Denver Union Station and Colorado State University in Fort Collins in September. RamsRoute departs Friday afternoons and returns on Sunday afternoons.
The department says Bustang has been connecting major population and employment centers and local transit connections since it began service in July. In addition to the I-70 corridor, it is also providing service along the I-25 corridor, connecting Fort Collins, Denver and Colorado Springs.
Officials say the bus stops at existing park-and-ride locations along each route with fares based on the length of the trip. A discount is available for persons with disabilities and seniors 65 years old and older.
