Burglar Pilfers Christmas Presents From Denver Family With 6 Kids

DENVER (CBS4) - A burglar busted into a northeast Denver home on Tuesday and swiped Christmas presents from a family with six kids.

"I saw present wrapping all over. The rooms were dirty. There was trash all over. Our games were missing," 9-year-old Pyrshawn Miller said.

The family said they returned home on Tuesday afternoon to find a broken door and missing gifts. Police haven't said whether they believe other recent burglaries are connected.

Pyrshawn's mother, Shaleena, said the burglary was devastating.

"Just destroying my kids' rooms and taking what they wanted. So, it's kind of disheartening to know that there's that type of people in the world," she said.

The burglars not only took thousands of dollars in gifts but also stole other valuables and vandalized the Millers' property.

"They should be ashamed of themselves, and they should have never did wrong," Pyrshawn said.

Neighbor Heide Johnston said the theft is the latest in a rash of neighborhood break-ins that's caused heartache in the community.

"They work very hard," Johnston said. "They're amazing people. And it really makes me sad."

Shaleena said what the family lost can be replaced. What's important is that her kids are safe.

"I think it was kind of a great lesson for them because they'll learn to appreciate life, and they'll never want to make somebody else feel like they felt," she said.
