Cigarette Butt Believed To Be Cause Of Brush Fire In Fort Collins
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - Strong winds helped fuel a brush fire in Fort Collins on Friday afternoon.
The so called Fossil Creek fire broke out near Duck Lake just after 3 p.m.
It's burned about 150 acres. No structures were threatened but the fire put up a lot of smoke at Carpenter Road and Timberline.
The fire was 100 percent contained just after 8 p.m. Friday.
"The probable cause is a cigarette butt tossed from a passing car. The problem was worsened by cured grass and extreme winds," Madeline Noblett with Poudre Fire Authority said in a statement.
