Man Who Shot 2 At Middle School Back In Court

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The man who shot and injured two students in 2010 at Deer Creek Middle School in Jefferson County was back in court on Wednesday. A judge was hearing arguments on whether Bruco Eastwood will be granted more freedom.

Eastwood was found not guilty by reason of insanity and has been in custody at the state mental hospital ever since.

In a court hearing Wednesday, state psychologists say allowing Eastwood to leave the mental hospital grounds for unsupervised visits to his family, could help his treatment.

The victims in the shooting along with their families are expected to testify before a decision was made.

On Feb. 23 two students were shot and injured outside Deer Creek Middle School. Teachers tackled and restrained the gunman, Bruco Eastwood, 32, who apparently had been struggling with mental illness and was a former student of the school. (credit: CBS)

Matthew Thieu, who was shot by Eastwood, doesn't want him to have those privileges.

"It's essentially too soon. He's pretty much had has life handed to him on a silver platter while the rest of us are struggling day by day from what he put us through," he said.

The judge will likely issue her decision on Thursday.
