Brother Of Fatal Hit & Run Suspect Offers Apology To Victim's Family
GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - A man accused in a deadly hit-and-run Friday night appeared in court Monday morning.
Just weeks from his high school graduation, Jordan Sprouse, 18, died after being in a collision at 32nd Avenue and Kipling Street. Police say Alton Kirkland, 23, was driving the other car and he ran from the scene.
Officers arrested Kirkland a short time later. He's facing charges of vehicular homicide. He's also accused of leaving a woman and two children in the car he was driving behind at the scene.
A video advisement for Kirkland was held Monday morning and the judge called the charges of felony menacing and vehicular homicide extremely concerning. She set the bond at $50,000 cash and he cannot the drive or drink alcohol.
The judge also brought under consideration his prior record which includes felony theft and failure to appear in court, to name a few. The suspect's brother, Jeremiah Kirkland, was also in court to support him. He says he's sorry for the victim's family.
"I would just like to say I do apologize to the family; thoughts and prayers go to them for the loss of their son," Jeremiah Kirkland said.
The next court date will be the filing of formal charges, which is set for the morning of May 9.
