Report Of Barricaded Gunman In Broomfield Investigated As Possible Swatting Call

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4) - Broomfield Police have lifted a CodeRed Alert for residents following a report of a barricaded gunman. Officers were called to a home near Hazel St. and Midway Blvd. around 5:40 p.m.

Officers say they received a call about a barricaded gunman who had injured people in the home.

The department posted on Twitter the SWAT team cleared the home and found no weapons or victims. Investigators are now looking into who placed the call, and if it was a case of "swatting," a form of retaliation in which someone reports a false emergency to get authorities, particularly a SWAT team, to descend on an address.

Residents were asked to shelter in place while police investigated. Broomfield Police lifted the CodeRed alert at 7:15 p.m. Officers posted updates throughout the evening on the Broomfield Police Twitter account.
