Broncos Safety Darian Stewart Excited To Play His Former Team

DENVER (CBS4) - Broncos fans, there's a new No. 26 in town.

After the departure of Rahim Moore in the offseason, the Broncos were looking for an experienced safety to fill the void. They found it in Darian Stewart, who they signed during free agency.

Stewart is currently getting ready for the Broncos season opener next Sunday, one which matches the team against the Ravens. That's Stewart's former team.

"No pressure, but I'm definitely excited," Stewart told CBS4's Vic Lombardi.

Last year Stewart got to play on a defense with some pretty impressive pass rushers -- Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil -- and this year he gets to play on a defense with Von Miller, DeMarcus Ware and rookie Shane Ray.

"It doesn't get that much better than that," Stewart said. "That's what you look forward to. That's what you need especially as a safety, is get the quarterback to get the ball out quick."

And why did Stewart decide to sign with the Broncos?

"I just wanted to win, and I was comfortable with Coach (Gary) Kubiak," Stewart said. "I knew we had the personnel in place to make something happen this year, so this year was the year to get it done."

In Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, the Broncos defense faces a formidable foe. Stewart says they have a plan, though.

"He's proven. He's got a ring. He's pretty straightforward -- no emotion to show. That long ball is his go-to, his bread-and-butter. As long as he's not getting over the top of us, we're good."
