Broncos RB Booker To Get More Carries

DENVER (The Sports Xchange) - Denver Broncos coach Gary Kubiak envisions rookie running back Devontae Booker as the spark that could ignite his team's sputtering ground game.

A fourth-round pick in the 2016 draft, Booker rushed five times for 46 yards and had two receptions in Denver's 21-13 loss to the AFC West-rival San Diego Chargers on Thursday. The 24-year-old has 161 yards on 34 carries for the season.

"When he's had some opportunities he's done some really good things," Kubiak said, via ESPN. "As a young player, we're trying to get him going as far as protection and those type of things, and he's starting to handle himself better. I think he deserves some more opportunities to touch the football. And when he's had the opportunity, he's done some good stuff."

C.J. Anderson has been held under 50 yards in each of his last four games, amassing just 164 on 54 carries during that span.

The Broncos (4-2), who rank 19th in the league in rushing, will look to snap a two-game skid next Monday (8:30 p.m., ET) when they host the Houston Texans (4-2).
