Broncos Offensive Lineman Darrion Weems Could Be A Week 1 Starter

DENVER (The Sports Xchange) - Heading into this week's preseason games, every NFL team is hoping one of its training camp surprises will become an impact player, or maybe at least make the roster or steal a starting job.

For the Broncos, offensive lineman Darrion Weems fits that role. He arrived at training camp as a lightly regarded tackle who had played in just one regular-season game despite being in the league since 2012. He even spent two months on the Broncos' practice squad in 2012.

Now he could be their starting right guard.

The former tackle was moved inside to guard, and despite needing some technical polish, has impressed coaches with his persistence and a nasty streak on the inside.

With Ty Sambrailo still recovering from an elbow injury, Weems could be in line for a Week 1 start.
