Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders Agrees To New Deal

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Emmanuel Sanders and the Denver Broncos agreed on a three-year, $33 million contract extension Wednesday on the eve of the season opener.

With the deal, which runs through 2019, general manager John Elway checked off the final box on his offseason to-do list, which included finding Peyton Manning's successor (Trevor Siemian) and signing a trio of stars to long-term deals: linebackers Von Miller and Brandon Marshall and Sanders.

He'll make $5.6 million this season in the final year of the three-year, $15 million contract he signed with Denver in 2014 when the Broncos lured him away from the Kansas City Chiefs' complex just as he was about to sign with their AFC West rivals.

Sanders has posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in Denver, amassing 2,529 yards and 15 touchdowns on 177 catches and earning consecutive Pro Bowl honors. Over the last two seasons, nobody in the NFL has more 30-yard catches than Sanders' 24.

He had 10 receptions for 147 yards in the playoffs during the Broncos' Super Bowl run.

"Emmanuel has proven himself as a great player and one of the most productive receivers in this league," Elway said in a statement. "He plays with intensity, and we love the way he competes. We're thrilled Emmanuel is going to be a Bronco for many more years to come."

The seventh-year pro spent his first four seasons as a No. 3 receiver with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who selected him in the third round of the 2010 draft out of SMU.
