Breckenridge Police Officer Arrested For Suspicion Of DUI

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (CBS4) -- An officer with the Breckenridge Police Department was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Officer Garrett Frye, 24, was arrested on Friday in Breckenridge. A sergeant with BPD pulled him over at about 11:50 p.m. on South French Street after seeing him driving without his headlights on.

The sergeant recognized Frye was an off-duty officer and called the Summit County Sheriff's Office avoid any appearance of conflict of interest in the investigation.

Frye posted a $1,000 bond on Saturday and was released. He has been placed on leave pending an internal investigation.

Frye has an arraignment hearing scheduled for March 6.

Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons complimented the professional handling of this arrest and said, "Police officers have a moral and legal obligation to abide by the laws that they enforce. The arrest demonstrates how seriously law enforcement take that obligation."
