Boys & Girls Club In Commerce City Gets Special Visit From Famous Ballet Dancer

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - The American Ballet Theatre's newest principal dancer is in Colorado and she started her visit with a trip to the Suncor Boys and Girls Club in Commerce City.

Misty Copeland wrote a note that will be put in a time capsule for future club members, and then she watched students perform.

Just last month Copeland became the first African-American woman to be named a principal in the American Ballet Theatre. She was introduced to ballet at her local Boys and Girls Club in California.

"The Boys and Girls Clubs are giving so many children an opportunity to dream bigger than what their communities may offer for them or what their family situations may be," Copeland said. "I'm definitely proof of that."
