Boulder Judge Denies Bail For Convict Who Disappeared During Trial

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - A man convicted of sex assault will sit in jail in Boulder County for more than three months until he is sentenced because he disappeared on the last day of his trial.

George Tiba, 49, of Evans, didn't appear in court on Dec. 13, which was the last day of his sex assault trial. Despite the fact that he wasn't present, he wound up being convicted of two counts of sex assault, one count of second degree burglary and one count of theft.

Authorities wound up finding Tiba six days later in California and they brought him back to Boulder.

On Thursday a judge denied bail for Tiba and told him he must remain in jail until he is sentenced on April 11. The judge told Tiba he is a danger to the community.

Tiba attacked a 22-year-old woman in February 2013 at her home on 11th Street in Boulder. She told police that she had met him for the first time when she was out with friends at the Walrus Saloon earlier that evening.
