Boulder Immigration Attorney Disbarred After Felony Theft Conviction

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- An immigration attorney in Boulder has been disbarred after she was convicted of cheating immigrant families out of thousands of dollars.

Emily Cohen was convicted on 13 of 21 counts of felony theft in December 2014. She was sentenced in April 2015 to six years in prison.

Cohen told immigrants that she would help them get visas and work permits but took their money and never delivered. She cited personal and emotional problems for her conduct.

According to the Daily Camera, the judge sentenced her to 10 years probation and said she wouldn't be allowed to practice law while on probation.

The Colorado Supreme Court disbarred Cohen, saying it was their responsibility to enforce the values of the legal profession.
