Boulder County Getting Serious About Removing Flood Debris

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- Boulder County is getting serious about removing flood debris to prevent more flooding.

Boulder was one of the areas hit hard by last September's flooding.

Officials with Boulder County have sent letters to hundreds of owners of property along streams warning them that debris is posing a hazard to public safety and must be removed.

Property owners have 10 days from the mailing date of the letters to notify the county that they will conduct the cleanup. Otherwise they can give Boulder County the go-ahead to remove the debris.

They can also appeal the order.

If county commissioners disagree with the appeal they can push for a court-authorized cleanup and the county could bill the property owners for the costs.
